Clash mars TTV's visit to RK Nagar; 10 held

CHENNAI: RK Nagar MLA and AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran's visit to his constituency on Wednesday was marred by violence when some of his party workers clashed with their AIADMK counterparts. Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd.Later, around 12.30pm, Dhinakaran distributed the sewing machines and said, "I cannot avoid visiting my constituency in fear of stone-pelters and haters. They are supporters of former minister Madhusudhanan, who contested against me in the election and they are not the general public."

CHENNAI: RK Nagar MLA and AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran's visit to his constituency on Wednesday was marred by violence when some of his party workers clashed with their AIADMK counterparts. Ten people including a woman police inspector were injured. Police have picked up 10 people.Dhinakaran was scheduled to visit his office in R K Nagar to distribute 150 sewing machines to women residents. People gathered along the streets to welcome him. Police were deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.Police said a man, later identified as AIADMK party worker Madhusudan , threw a stone at Dhinakaran's car as it was nearing his office. Some other people also joined him and raised slogans against Dhinakaran.Soon, TTV supporters and protesters attacked each other. In the violence, inspector Prema of Ennore police station, one TTV supporter and eight others were injured.The fight saw people pelting stones, slippers and wooden planks at each other. Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd.Later, around 12.30pm, Dhinakaran distributed the sewing machines and said, "I cannot avoid visiting my constituency in fear of stone-pelters and haters. They are supporters of former minister Madhusudhanan, who contested against me in the election and they are not the general public." Dhinakaran left the constituency around 3pm flanked by police personnel. A police officer said they have not registered any case.
