Residents bat for walkers path near Indira Nagar MRTS

The open space near the Indira Nagar MRTS Station is an eyesore with construction debris and garbage piled all over the stretch. For a long time now, the Indira Nagar residents have been batting for a walkers’ space on this stretch as it provides easy access to the MRTS station. They head in the wrong direction to avoid getting stuck in traffic at the intersections of Indira Nagar First, Second and Third Avenues, a pedestrian said. Similarly, vehicles coming from Indira Nagar Second Avenue, to enter IT Corridor, have to take a U-turn at the intersection of Rajiv Gandhi Salai and West Avenue Road, Thiruvanmiyur. To avoid taking a detour, motorists throw caution to the wind and enter the Corridor through the intersection in the wrong direction.

When it rains, the stretch becomes slushy and slippery. Although it is a no-parking zone, cab drivers and customers going to the eateries use the stretch as their free parking lot. For a long time now, the Indira Nagar residents have been batting for a walkers’ space on this stretch as it provides easy access to the MRTS station. Since February this year, the stretch has been witnessing steady increase in vehicular traffic following creation of an intersection connecting the IT Corridor. Pedestrians are the worst-affected as there is no space to walk and they end up walking on the carriageway. To add to their woes, motorists coming from IT Corridor come at dangerously high speeds, most often in the wrong direction to enter Indira Nagar Third Avenue to proceed towards Thiruvanmiyur. They head in the wrong direction to avoid getting stuck in traffic at the intersections of Indira Nagar First, Second and Third Avenues, a pedestrian said. Similarly, vehicles coming from Indira Nagar Second Avenue, to enter IT Corridor, have to take a U-turn at the intersection of Rajiv Gandhi Salai and West Avenue Road, Thiruvanmiyur.
