more-in The School Education Department on Saturday announced that it has decided to scrap the proposal to issue a consolidated mark sheet to students with a total of both their Plus 1 and Plus 2 public examinations. Minister for School Education K.A. Sengottaiyan said the decision was taken keeping in mind the mental stress and agony that students were being put through by having to write board exams thrice. “Furthermore, having a consolidated mark sheet with the Plus 1 public exam marks might bring down their overall score and affect the college admission process,” he said. The first batch of students, who took the Plus 1 board exams in March 2018, will receive a mark sheet out of 600 marks, and when they take up their Plus 2 exams in March 2019, they will be issued a mark sheet for the same, again out of 600 marks. “With a new curriculum in place for Class 11, we expect the students to take the exam seriously and they are required to pass,” Mr. Sengottaiyan said. A government order to this effect from Pradeep Yadav, Principal Secretary of the School Education department, stated that there had been several representations given by students to the Chief Minister’s special cell appealing for separate mark sheets, as they feared it would jeopardise their chances to secure admission to the college of their choice. Coaching begins The School Education Department on Saturday began coaching through V-SAT technology across 413 centres in the State. The department has again partnered with Speed Institute and classes will be held on all weekends. Data made available indicate that nearly 31,000 students from both Plus 1 and Plus 2 will be attending the coaching classes. While 320 teachers from across the State were trained by subject experts as part of an intensive five day training programme, the teachers are in turn training 4,130 teachers across the State who will be a part of and help facilitate coaching of students.
