more-in The DMK on Thursday took exception to BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan’s allegation that the party had connived with the Congress during the last phase of the civil war in Sri Lanka and worked against the Tamils. In a statement here, DMK spokesperson K.S. Radhakrishnan said Ms. Soundararajan’s comments were highly condemnable since she was not aware of the history of the Sri Lankan Tamil issue. “It did not just begin in 2009. In the early phases of the DMK, the general council held in Chidambaram passed a resolution in support of an amicable solution to the Lankan Tamil problem and the resolution was moved by M. Karunanidhi,” he said. Subsequently, he moved a resolution in the general council in Thoothukudi making a strong case for bringing the issue to the attention of the United Nations. “You may not have read all these. You can get them from your father and former TNCC president Kumari Anandan and he knows Kalaignar’s (Karunanidhi) love for the Sri Lankan Tamils,” Mr. Radhakrishnan added. Recalling the pro-Eelam protests in the 1980s and the resignation of their MLA posts by Karunanidhi and K. Anbazhagan, he said it was Karunanidhi who held talks with LTTE leader Prabhakaran and Anton Balasingham in 1989. “Is Tamilisai aware of Jayalalithaa’s demand for the dismissal of the DMK government on the ground that it had supported the LTTE?,” he said. Mr. Radhakrishnan said the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation adopted many resolutions in 2012 including a demand for an independent international inquiry into war crimes against the Tamils. “Is Tamilisai ready to speak about PM who visited Sri Lanka and kissed Mahinda Rajapaksa’s stained hand?” he asked.
