This had escalated and eventually led to a clash between the two groups,” a police officer said.Melavalavu Police said that they have booked case under sections 294 B (uttering obscene words), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) read with section 3 of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act based on a complaint from the injured students, who alleged that the non-SC community students hurled caste abuses at them in bus.Parents of the arrested students too filed a counter complaint in Melavalavu police station. Two of the three are Class XII students while one of them studies in Class X, police said.Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident happened outside Alagiripatti Government School, where two groups clashed as a result of a heated quarrel.“The primary reason seems to be enmity between two students, who used to have frequent arguments while traveling to school in bus,” said C D Chakkaravarthy, deputy superintendent of police, Melur.Chakkaravarthy, however, maintained that the incident is a minor one and was a result of enmity between two students reaching a boiling point on Thursday, and has nothing to do with caste.“Recently, one of them had accidentally stomped on the foot of the other in a crowded bus which led to the footwear being damaged.
