Police resume patrolling on bicycles

  • | Sunday | 23rd September, 2018

Police patrol on bicycles, a practice adopted ages ago, has been revived on a pilot basis by the Siva Kanchi police station in Kancheepuram district. Four bicycles fitted with battery-operated sirens and flash lights were handed over to the station for use by those deputed for night rounds in the Siva Kanchi police station limits. Meanwhile, flash lights were installed on either sides of junctions or accident-prone points on highways by the district police to warn motorists. In rural pockets, night patrolling by two-wheelers would be the wise option, he added. The flash lights would be installed for a distance of about 125-150m on both the sides so that speeding vehicles can slow down and cross the accident-prone point, official sources said.
