more-in After a car chase over 4 km, sleuths of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chennai Zone, nabbed a man who was smuggling 400 kg of ganja, worth over ?60 lakh, from Visakhapatnam to Theni on Sunday night. According to sources, the NCB received information that two persons were smuggling the contraband by road and it intensified vehicle checks. Around 10 p.m. on Sunday near Karanodai Toll Plaza, the NCB personnel tried to stop a car that hit the barrier and sped away towards Red Hills. As the officers started chasing the car, the suspect lost control of his vehicle and rammed a median at the Tiruvallur Kootu Road Junction. While the NCB personnel nabbed the driver, another person in the car managed to escape. “We caught Chelladurai, 44, of Theni. He had spent 10 years in prison in connection with a burglary case,” said a senior police officer. Further inquiry revealed that Chelladurai and one more person were taken to Visakhapatnam by Iswaran of Theni. “He had procured the contraband and told them to take it to Theni by road. He was supposed to take a train and meet them at the destination,” the officer said. Search on for two The NCB is looking for Iswaran and the other man who was in the car. “This is the second highest seizure this year. In the last 9 months, we have seized over 2,000 kg of ganja. The seizures were mainly in Dindigul, Madurai, Chennai and Tiruchi,” said the officer.
