Potholes getting worse in Kadaperi

A section of Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road, near Kadaperi, which was ridden with potholes shows no signs of getting better. S. Sriram, a resident of West Tambaram, said, “The road is predominantly used by pedestrians from Kadaperi and Tambaram Sanatorium to go to West Tambaram market. Barricades were placed to prevent motorists from driving in the wrong direction while seeking to enter Rajaji Salai from Kadaperi. These potholes are a safety hazard as some motorists swerve suddenly to avoid them, putting other road-users in danger. Due to lack of intervention, following recent showers, the potholes have become more of a problem.

These potholes are a safety hazard as some motorists swerve suddenly to avoid them, putting other road-users in danger. Motorists have appealed to the State Highways Department to re-lay the battered portion of the road. “Some motorcyclists complain of backpain resulting from driving regularly on this stretch. In addition, the vehicle tyres get damaged. The risk of motorcyclists skidding on the road and injuring themselves is too high,” L.N. Haricharan, a resident of Kadaperi, said. S. Sriram, a resident of West Tambaram, said, “The road is predominantly used by pedestrians from Kadaperi and Tambaram Sanatorium to go to West Tambaram market. Barricades were placed to prevent motorists from driving in the wrong direction while seeking to enter Rajaji Salai from Kadaperi. Despite the presence of barricades and the poor condition of the road, a few motorists speed and overtake recklessly.” Residents complain that the sodium vapour lamps on the road do not dispel the darkness sufficiently.
