Chennai: Man stabs dog to death

CHENNAI: Police on Thursday arrested a man for stabbing a dog to death.The dog roamed on a street off MGR Road in Nanganallur and was killed by Raja who was drunk. The dog used to sit near her shop all the time," said Krishnan, a nearby resident who used to feed the dog every night. He then looked at the dog and said he would kill her like he was going to kill the dog,” said Krishnan. After this, he chased the dog into a nearby tailor shop and plunged a knife into the dog. According to witnesses in the area, Raja used to get drunk and harass vendors along the road for money.

According to witnesses in the area, Raja used to get drunk and harass vendors along the road for money."Around 11pm, the man demanded money from a woman food vendor on the street and threatened her. The dog used to sit near her shop all the time," said Krishnan, a nearby resident who used to feed the dog every night."When the woman refused to give money, he threatened to kill her. He then looked at the dog and said he would kill her like he was going to kill the dog,” said Krishnan. After this, he chased the dog into a nearby tailor shop and plunged a knife into the dog. The dog died on the spot, he added.Police said the accused created nuisance in the area and had been warned several times earlier.Dawn Williams, general manager of the Blue Cross of India, filed a complaint with the Pazhavanthangal police in this regard. Police registered a case under IPC section 426 (punishment for mischief), 429 (Mischief by killing), 278 ( Making atmosphere noxious to health) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) and under section 11 (1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.The carcass of the dog was sent to the Madras Veterinary College in Vepery for autopsy.
