443 CCTVs installed on Mount Poonamallee Road

CHENNAI: The city traffic police have installed 443 CCTV cameras on the Mount Poonamallee Road on Wednesday.As part of city police work to bring every inch of the city under surveillance, police have begun work to install CCTV cameras every 50 metres on arterial roads like Poonamallee High Road, Anna Salai , RK Mutt Road and Nungambakkam High Road "With this, 10% installation have been achieved on this stretch," said police commissioner A K Viswanathan, after inaugurating 443 CCTV cameras installed on Mount Poonamallee High Road.He said the CCTV cameras deter miscreants from committing a crime.Cameras have been fixed from Kummananchavadi to Kathipara covering a distance of 12.8-km. Of the 443, at least 100 CCTV cameras installed at vantage points have been linked to the centralised traffic police control room in the commissioner's office.The city traffic police officials said that they are in the process of bringing more CCTV cameras on the CTH and Poonamallee High Road. The motorists are being closely kept under watch, so that they ensure they cannot escape flouting the rules" said a senior police official. "These cameras are for both law and order, and traffic.
