Affordable housing to all by 2030, says OPS

CHENNAI: The required number of housing facilities at affordable costs will be built across the Tamil Nadu by 2030, deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam said here on Friday.He said slum areas would be improved for which a new policy is being formulated. This facility would be provided with sufficient accommodation facilities for the urban poor, he said.The Tamil Nadu government has sought a loan of Rs 5,000 crore for building industrial workers housing and rental housing facilities in areas other than Chennai. This new policy would be announced by the government soon.Inaugurating the 12th edition of CREDAI’s FAIRPRO 2019 at Chennai Trade Centre, Panneerselvam said the new housing facility would help poor people in urban areas. A proposal in this regard has been submitted to the Asian Development Bank,.The government has also proposed to relocate poor people living on the river banks by constructing 38,000 tenements with financial assistance from the World Bank to the tune of Rs 4,647.50 crore.This project has been named as ‘Tamil Nadu Housing Board Sites & Services Schemes to help the urban poor and slum dwellers’ which will be implemented soon.
