TN: Ilaiyaraaja’s relative held, let off on bail

Both Viswamithran and Sabariraj are club members. CHENNAI: At least five people, including the son-in-law of music director Ilayaraja , have been arrested in connection with a clash inside Presidency Club on Ethiraj Salai in Egmore . As it is a bailable offence, the arrested were released immediately on their own station bail by the Egmore police.

CHENNAI: At least five people, including the son-in-law of music director Ilayaraja , have been arrested in connection with a clash inside Presidency Club on Ethiraj Salai in Egmore . They were, however, let off on own bail by police later.Police said the trouble began after R Sabariraj, who is Ilayarajah’s son-in-law, had a quarrel with Cuddalore-based businessman, Vishwamithran. Both Viswamithran and Sabariraj are club members. Moments after the quarrel Vishwamithran called in his body guards who attacked Sabariraj and his friend who tried to intervene.In the exchange of blows, at least two were injured, prompting the club management to call police control room. On information, police inspector Karunakaran and his team arrived at the place and held inquiry with other members.Police then took into custody Vishwamithran, Sabariraj, Govindaraj, Harish and Eswar Annamalai. Following a preliminary inquiry, they slapped a case on all the five, but let them off after a formal arrest.Though the incident happened last week, it came to light only now, after Presidency Club issued a circular informing the members about the attack on one of its members by two body guards on the premises of the institution.A simple case of public nuisance, under Section 75 of Madras City Police Act, has been registered against the five men. As it is a bailable offence, the arrested were released immediately on their own station bail by the Egmore police.
