Complaint filed against VCK leader Thirumavalavan over his remarks on ‘Manusmriti’

BJP’s legal cell state secretary, A Ashwathaman has filed a complaint against the VCK leader. Complaint is filed under section 153, 153 (A)(1)(a), 295 A, 298, 505(1)(b) and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan is booked by the Chennai police for his statement against religious text Manusmriti. He has quoted manusmriti a root cause of violence against women and is demanding to ban it.

The VCK leader said all women were “belittled and treated badly” as per Hindu dharma and quoted the text as saying “every woman was created that way (parathayar) by God.” He said this while participating in a webinar ‘Periyar and Indian Politics’ last month.

His comments lead to protest from the BJP’s latest entrant Khushbhu, who has demanded an apology.
