Association favours judicial commission to probe increase in suicides by married men in TN News Today

Chennai: The Association for Protection of Men-Tamilnadu has expressed concern over the increase in suicides among married men and urged the State government to appoint a judicial commission to ascertain the reasons and bring to book those who instigated to take the drastic step. Talking to reporters to mark the World Men's Day beig observed Thursday Association president D Arul Thumilan and secretary S Madhusudhanan said about 10000 married men commit suicide in Tamilnadu every year. Observing that murders of infants and young children due to illicit relationships has become a routine affair in the State and raises doubts about the cultural identity of the people they also urged the State government to enact an urgent Law that provides stringent and equal punishment to those having illicit relations. They also wanted the government to enact a law that provides life term punishment for those misuing the POCSO Act and sending men to jails by giving false complaints besides an Amendment to the existing Act treating dowry harassment cases as civil cases to prevent harassment of men and their family based on false complaints. They also wanted the State government to exert pressure on the Centre to create a National Commission for Men on the lines of the one set up for Women.

Noting that main reason for this was harassment by wife and extra-marital relations they said in a bid to put an end to this social menace the government should appoint a Commission headed by a reitred Judge to examine the reasons for the men taking the extreme step and bring to book all those who had instigated it.
