Cyclone Beruvi to make landfall yellow alert for south TN News Today

Chennai: The existing Depression over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm Beruvi and is expected to make landfall in the mainland between Kanyakumari and Pamban in south Tamilnadu . Following the development the Met office has issued yellow alert for South Tamilnadu and South Kerala coasts for today and on 4 December and red alert on 3 December. For North TN Puducherry and Karaikal and North Kerala and Mahe and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh yellow alert has been issued till 4 December. South Kerala is expected to bear the brunt of the weather system in the form of extreme heavy rainfall strong wind and rough sea conditions. Under the influence of the storm heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls is likely over southern TN districts of Kanniyakumari Tirunelveli Thoothukudi Ramanathapuram Tenkasi and Sivagangai today.

The deep depression will cross the Sri Lanka coast today and move towards Kanyakumari area on Thursday morning. The path it is likely to take after reaching the mainland will be tracked today. Following the development the Met office has issued yellow alert for South Tamilnadu and South Kerala coasts for today and on 4 December and red alert on 3 December. For North TN Puducherry and Karaikal and North Kerala and Mahe and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh yellow alert has been issued till 4 December. South Kerala is expected to bear the brunt of the weather system in the form of extreme heavy rainfall strong wind and rough sea conditions. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over north Tamilnadu Puducherry Mahe and Kariakal and North Kerala during 2 and 3 December with isolated heavy rainfall on 4 December and heavy rainfall at isolated places over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh during 2 and 3 December and over Lakshadweep on 3 and 4 December. The Met office has said wind speed would gradually increase becoming 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph over southwest Bay of Bengal along and off Sri Lanka coast from today morning for subsequent 24 hours. The sea condition would be rough to very rough over southeast Bay of Bengal and very rough to high over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal and along and off east Sri Lanka coast for next two days and rough to very rough over Comorin Area Gulf of Mannar and along and off south Tamilnadu-Kerala coasts from today till 4 December. It has also suggested total suspension of fishing operation for the next three days and fishermen have been advised not to venture into southeast Bay of Bengal southwest Bay of Bengal and along and off east Sri Lanka coast till 3 December Comorin area Gulf of Mannar and south Tamilnadu- Kerala coasts from today till 4 December.
