Surappa Tenure ends tension continues News Today

Chennai: The tenure of Anna University Vice-Chancellor M K Surappa ended on Sunday. A section of the media reported that Surappa has refused to get relieved from his post. It is also said that Governor Banwarilal Purohit has asked Surappa to continue till a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed. As per practice the nodal officer of the search committee will give advertisements inviting applications. The committee has said that notice will be issued to Surappa even if he is relived from the Vice-Chancellor post.

Chennai: The tenure of Anna University Vice-Chancellor M K Surappa ended on Sunday. However it is not clear who will succeed him. A section of the media reported that Surappa has refused to get relieved from his post. It is also said that Governor Banwarilal Purohit has asked Surappa to continue till a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed. It may be noted that a three member Vice-Chancellor search committee comprising of JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadish Kumar Madras University former Vice-Chancellor S P Thyagarajan and former IAS officer Sheela Ranu Chungath was formed recently to select the new Vice-Chancellor to Anna University. As per practice the nodal officer of the search committee will give advertisements inviting applications. After that the committee will shortlist ten candidates and conduct an interview before recommending three names to the governor. Meanwhile the committee formed to probe into the alleged financial irregularities malpractices in semester examination and revaluation charge leveled against Surappa has said that 80 per cent of the investigation is over. The committee headed by retired Madras High Court Justice P Kalaiyarasan said only three or four more witnesses have to be enquired. The committee has said that notice will be issued to Surappa even if he is relived from the Vice-Chancellor post. He will be respond to it either in writing or by appearing in person the committee said.
