CM removes red beacon from car

Governor Kiran Bedi took down the red beacon in the cars of her Secretariat. A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi removed the red beacon from his car following a Cabinet decision against ‘VIP culture’, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday followed suit. Mr. Palaniswami further said the red beacons from the vehicles of all Ministers and senior officials would be removed too. An additional ?100 crore had been sanctioned for ensuring drinking water, he said. Talking to journalists, Mr. Palaniswami said the government was taking steps to address the drinking water need across the State by sourcing funds to the tune of ?500 crore through local bodies.
