TN ministers meet PM Modi, Union ministers for NEET exemption

"NEET causes grave injustice to the rural students of Tamil Nadu. It only benefits some 4,000 CBSE students while five lakh students take (biology in) state board. The Prime has Minister assured us that he will look into our demands after consulting law ministry since a case is pending in court. We are hopeful of getting a positive outcome," Thambidurai said. The Tamil Nadu Admission to Post Graduate Courses in Medicine and Dentistry Act, 2017, was also passed with the opposition endorsing it through voice vote.The ministers, P Thangamani (electricity), D Jayakumar (finance), C Ve Shanmugam (law), K P Anbazhagan (higher education) and C Vijayabaskar (health and family welfare) took a flight to Delhi, a day after the budget session of the Tamil Nadu assembly concluded.The ministers met Union ministers J P Nadda (health and family welfare), Prakash Javadekar (human resource development) and Ravishankar Prasad (law and justice and electronics and IT) and sought help.

CHENNAI: With pressure mounting up in the state, Tamil Nadu ministers on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, exerting pressure on the Centre to exempt Tamil Nadu from National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for medical admission.The five-member ministerial team from Tamil Nadu, led by Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai, sought Modi's intervention in getting Presidential assent for the two Bills passed by TN Assembly exempting students from the state taking the NEET for admission to medical and dental colleges.The Tamil Nadu Admission to MBBS and Dental Courses Act, 2017 seeks to do away with any entrance test for medical exam and seeks to admit students to UG medical courses based on class 12 board marks.
