Case against Pachamuthu, Madhan not closed, say police

The Central Crime Branch of the Chennai police has said that investigation was on in the case relating to SRM University chancellor T.R. A top official in CCB said, “We have not closed the case as the money is being settled to the complainants. In compliance of the bail condition by a court, Mr. Pachamuthu had deposited ?75 crores to the credit of CCB and had also furnished a bank guarantee of ?10 crore.

Pachamuthu alias Parivendhar, S.Madhan and other accomplices in the case relating to the cheating of medical aspirants. The case against them had not been closed. Over 136 medical aspirants claimed that they paid more than ?85.58 crore to them for getting MBBS seats. Following this, K. Jayachandran of Virugambakkam filed a complaint that last year he met Mr. Madhan at his office and paid ?53 lakh capitation for an MBBS seat for his son through a functionary of Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK). Later, as the NEET was made mandatory for medical admissions, they neither have refunded the amount nor given admission in medical colleges of SRM Educational institutions. Mr. Pachamuthu, Mr. Madhan, Mr. Babu and Mr. Kathir were cited as accused and arrested. In compliance of the bail condition by a court, Mr. Pachamuthu had deposited ?75 crores to the credit of CCB and had also furnished a bank guarantee of ?10 crore. A top official in CCB said, “We have not closed the case as the money is being settled to the complainants. We will complete investigation in the case to its logical conclusion and file a final report/ charge sheet within eight weeks as directed by the Madras High Court.” Sources added that the CCB may include charges against the accused under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Collection of Capitation Fee) Act, 1992.
