Final preparations begin for Ooty Flower Show

Nilgiris District Collector Innocent Divya inaugurated the final preparations for the 122nd Flower Show to be held at the Government Botanical Garden in Udhagamandalam on Sunday. Horticulture department officials said that a total of 185 varieties of flowering plants will be on show. As part of the flower show, around 1,500 flower pots of Inca Marigolds, French Marigolds, Petunias, Salvias, Begonias, Asters, Balsams, Oriental Lilies, Chrysanthemums, Gladiolus and Gloxinias, among others, will be arranged on the lawns over the coming days. Speaking to reporters here, Ms. Divya said that the Flower Show will be held from May 18 to 22, as opposed to the usual three-day schedule.

Speaking to reporters here, Ms. Divya said that the Flower Show will be held from May 18 to 22, as opposed to the usual three-day schedule. As part of the flower show, around 1,500 flower pots of Inca Marigolds, French Marigolds, Petunias, Salvias, Begonias, Asters, Balsams, Oriental Lilies, Chrysanthemums, Gladiolus and Gloxinias, among others, will be arranged on the lawns over the coming days. Horticulture department officials said that a total of 185 varieties of flowering plants will be on show. Moreover, a total of 20,000 flowering plants will also be on show. The Collector said that the glass house, being renovated, is also expected to be fully completed by the time the Show begins. “The work will be expedited and all construction will be completed soon,” said Ms. Divya. It is expected that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami will inaugurate the festival and that welfare will be distributed to beneficiaries at the event. Also present at the Government Botanical Garden on Sunday, were Joint Director (in-charge) of the horticulture department, Nilgiris District, Sivasubramaniam Samraj, and G K Uma Rani, Deputy Director of the horticulture department, who also helped horticulture department workers arrange the pots.
