Saplings given to farmers

A total of 1.40 lakh saplings were given at free of cost to these farmers and were planed in their lands. To encourage tree cultivation outside forest area, the Forest Department has asked farmers and the public to plant saplings in their patta lands. Officials said they had planned to plant saplings in all types of lands this year. Later, farmers in these villages were met and the details of the schemes were explained through songs and drama. As part of creating an awareness among the people and farmers, wall paintings were done at 30 places where people gather in large numbers.

During his visit, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Working Plan) P. Jagdish reviewed the performance of “Tree Cultivation in Private Lands” scheme that is being implemented jointly by the Forest Department and Aswath, an NGO based in Chennimalai. Officials said they had planned to plant saplings in all types of lands this year. As part of creating an awareness among the people and farmers, wall paintings were done at 30 places where people gather in large numbers. Later, farmers in these villages were met and the details of the schemes were explained through songs and drama. Mr. Jagdish reviewed the performance of the scheme with District Forest Officers Viswanathan (Erode), Arunlal (Sathyamangalam), forest officer (Extension) Ravichandran, forest rangers Prabhakar, Krishnamoorthy and Selvaraj, president of the NGO. They also inspected the saplings reared at the extension centre.
