Following continuous rain for the past few days, there seemed to be a lull on Thursday, if the rainfall received in the district is anything to go by. The water level in the Reservoir stood at 43 feet, 6.50 feet less than the full reservoir level. Sources in the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board said that the Siruvani Reservoir had received 25 mm and the Siruvani foothills nine mm. Officials in the Coimbatore Corporation said that following good inflow in the Reservoir and rise in water level, the civic body could step up water supply from once-in-six days to once-in-four days. In Siruvani too, the rainfall was less than what it had been in the past few days.

more-in Following continuous rain for the past few days, there seemed to be a lull on Thursday, if the rainfall received in the district is anything to go by. The total rainfall the district received in the 24 hours that ended 8 a.m. Friday stood at 56 mm with Chinnakalar receiving the highest of 12 mm, followed by Cincona and Valparai Taluk Office at 10 mm. In Siruvani too, the rainfall was less than what it had been in the past few days. Sources in the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board said that the Siruvani Reservoir had received 25 mm and the Siruvani foothills nine mm. The water level in the Reservoir stood at 43 feet, 6.50 feet less than the full reservoir level. The sources said that though the inflow in the past few days was good, there was a problem in drawing water from the dam as silt and bamboo bushes had choked the inlet to the treatment plant. The blockage happened half-a-km ahead of the inlet pipe on Wednesday. By Thursday, the Board officials with help from their counterparts in Kerala cleared the bamboo bushes and removed silt. Officials in the Coimbatore Corporation said that following good inflow in the Reservoir and rise in water level, the civic body could step up water supply from once-in-six days to once-in-four days. A release from the Coimbatore Corporation said Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani on Friday inspected the dredging work the civic body and Public Works Department had carried out in channels to ensure free of flow of rainwater into Kurichi, Kuniamuthur and Vellalore tanks.
