Corpn school unveils SMS service to inform parents about homework

Tirupur: A corporation primary school at North Pooluvapatti in the city on Sunday introduced SMS service to inform parents about their wards’ homework and other important messages.“We have subscribed for annual services of a leading mobile network to pass on information to the parents’ through SMS. In fact, many students have joined us from the private schools,” Prabhu added. The initiation was taken by school’s Parents Teachers Association,” said P Manikanda Prabhu, a teacher.The service was inaugurated as a part of ‘Kalvi Seer’ festival held in the school on Sunday. Such things have helped us to reduce absenteeism among the students,” said Manikanda Prabhu.“We are giving tough competition to three or more private schools in our area. The school has five smart classrooms, which would be utilized by all sections on routine basis.

It costs around Rs 40-50 per student. The initiation was taken by school’s Parents Teachers Association,” said P Manikanda Prabhu, a teacher.The service was inaugurated as a part of ‘Kalvi Seer’ festival held in the school on Sunday. More than hundred parents took part in the event along their children. More than Rs 1 lakh worth products required for the school was gifted in the event.P Shanmugam, a parent said, “The SMS service is good initiative, especially for the students who pursue classes I and II, who may sometimes forget about the important messages passed by teachers.”“562 students are studying in classes I to V in the school. It has 15 classrooms. The school has five smart classrooms, which would be utilized by all sections on routine basis. We have also installed amplifier-speaker system to communicate with all the class students simultaneously,” said D Arockia Jasmine Mala, headmistress of the school.“We have many extracurricular activities ranging from silambam to karate to keep the students interested. We have introduced jersey too. Such things have helped us to reduce absenteeism among the students,” said Manikanda Prabhu.“We are giving tough competition to three or more private schools in our area. In fact, many students have joined us from the private schools,” Prabhu added.
