Lecturer blamed for student’s suicide

According to police, lecturer Murugan had on Friday confronted the student for allegedly making snide remarks about him. We will take action against him,’’ said principal Vairam Sethuraman.Meanwhile, police also assured the students that they would conduct a thorough probe. At the same time, the management warned a couple of students for instigating others to stage the protest.“Murugan is not a permanent teaching faculty of the college.

Coimbatore: A day after a second-year diploma student of government polytechnic college committed suicide by hanging at his house in Tirupur on Monday, students of the college staged a sit-in on the campus, saying the youth committed suicide due to harassment by a faculty member.The deceased was identified as S Sanjay Prasath, 18, son of Shivakumar from Pollachi. According to police, lecturer Murugan had on Friday confronted the student for allegedly making snide remarks about him. “The lecturer not only didn’t allow the student inside the classroom but also snatched away his identity card, asking him to bring his parents on Monday.,” an investigation official said.His friends told police that Sanjay was found depressed since then and this might have forced him to take the extreme step.
