Bikers snatch gold chains from two women in city

A chain snatcher attempted to snatch her mangalsutra without knowing that it was made of thread. According to police, two motorcycle-borne people snatched the gold chain from Saraswathi’s neck and fled. Meanwhile, the pillion rider snatched a 3-soveregin gold chain from her neck. While two 3-sovereign gold chains were snatched from two women in separate incidents in the city on Wednesday night, passersby at Peelamedupudur caught a chain snatcher and severely thrashed him before handing him over to police on Thursday morning.Unidentified people snatched a gold chain from S Saraswathi, 53, of Sripathi Nagar, at Ramanathapuram around 8.30pm on Wednesday. While two 3-sovereign gold chains were snatched from two women in separate incidents in the city on Wednesday night, passersby at Peelamedupudur caught a chain snatcher and severely thrashed him before handing him over to police on Thursday morning.Unidentified people snatched a gold chain from S Saraswathi, 53, of Sripathi Nagar, at Ramanathapuram around 8.30pm on Wednesday. According to police, two motorcycle-borne people snatched the gold chain from Saraswathi’s neck and fled. Based on her complaint, the Ramanthapuram (crime) police registered a case and formed a team to nab the accused.In the second incident, two people who came in a motorcycle approached K Deivanai, 74, who was standing in front of her house at Annapoorani Layout at Siddhapudur around 9pm on Wednesday. They asked her to direct them to an address written on a piece of paper. Meanwhile, the pillion rider snatched a 3-soveregin gold chain from her neck. Deivanai raised an alarm. However, the chain snatchers managed to escape before neighbours could reach the spot. The Kattoor police have registered a case.Around 5am on Thursday, Shanthamani, 32, of Mariamman Kovil Street at Peelamedu, went for a morning walk. A chain snatcher attempted to snatch her mangalsutra without knowing that it was made of thread. However, passersby caught him and severely beat him up before handing him over to the Peelamedu (crime) police.After preliminary investigation, the police identified the accused as P Venkatraman, 29, of Tirunelveli, who was staying in a rental room at Podanur.
