Hundreds of trucks stranded on inter-State border

Meanwhile, in a statement issued here on Friday, the district administration said that 86 persons are in a camp in Valparai. The district administration has kept six JCBs for removing the mud and trees uprooted on the roads. As the incidents of landslips continue in several parts of Kerala, hundreds of trucks were stranded at Kerala border at Gopalapuram check-post since Friday morning, as they were not allowed to proceed further towards Gunderetti, Thalaserry, Kannur and Mangaluru. Since Friday morning, nearly 300 trucks were allowed to go in batches. Trucks going via Walayar check-post were completely blocked, sources here said. A few container lorries were caught in the landslips on the highway at Kuthiramedu, near Thrissur, on Thursday. In Coimbatore district, though people got respite on Friday morning, rain started pouring again in the afternoon. Due to this, minor landslips continued on the Pollachi - Valparai ghat road. The district administration has kept six JCBs for removing the mud and trees uprooted on the roads. However, reports reaching here said that debris and trees uprooted since Thursday on many roads in Valparai were yet to be cleared, because of the increasing number of landslips. Forest personnel manning Aliyar check-post are allowing only light vehicles, as a result of which, residents living in and around Valparai were not supplied even newspapers in the morning. As the road-level bridge submerged in the flood, devotees to the Palattrangarai Anjaneyaswami Temple, near Aliyar, were denied entry from Friday morning. The retaining wall of the Moolathara Dam again breached on Thursday night. Meanwhile, in a statement issued here on Friday, the district administration said that 86 persons are in a camp in Valparai. They were given food and essentials. Apart from this, over 100 people rescued from low-lying areas had gone to the homes of their relatives. With a view to control water-borne diseases, regular medical check-up for those in the camp are being conducted. A team of medical professionals with a standby ambulance is also kept ready to meet any emergency at the camp. Arrangements are also being made to give fresh copies of Aadhaar card, ration card, and other documents that were lost due to flood in Valparai after the rains subside. Ban imposed on tourism and fishing will continue for two more days. The administration is on high alert to meet any eventuality and the situation is under control, the statement said.
