Udhagamandalam: Nilgiris collector J Innocent Divya on Tuesday congratulated the teachers of the Government Tribal Residential Middle School in Bokkapuram near Masinagudi for bagging the state award for school cleanliness and clean water supply for the year 2017-18.Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had handed over the award, comprising a citation and a cash prize of Rs 30,000, to the school at a function held on September 5 in Chennai.Started as a primary school in 1956, the school was upgraded as a middle school in 2004. Located close to reserve forest area, it caters to about 142 tribal students, including 85 girls. Nine teachers, including the headmaster, are working there. It has a sanitary worker deputed by the Adi Dravidar and tribal welfare department.“The school won the state-level award only because of team effort. Students have been trained to be keep the school premises clean,” headmaster G Kannadasan told TOI.“Last year, the school was awarded for cleanliness at district level. That was very encouraging. With the state level award, our students are very much motivated,” Kannadasan said. “The students were taught lessons on cleanliness and hygiene, which resulted in a clean campus, classrooms and the toilets.”
