Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore, Chennai, had conducted various competitions in the run-up to the 125th anniversary celebrations, which saw the participation of over 10 lakh students. The prize distribution to winners was held at the college. At a time when India was in poverty and suffering under the yoke of British imperialism, the Swami felt that Vedic messages could awaken the people and went about spreading the messages. He was also for preserving ancient tradition and culture. Like the Swami, the Central Government was also of the firm belief that that the future of India lay in the hands of youth and that was why it had launched the ‘Start Up India’, ‘Stand Up India’ schemes, the Prime Minister said. State Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture K. Pandiarajan urged the students to not only work hard but also use their intelligence and innovation to turn entrepreneurs. The youth also had the responsibility to preserve Indian culture and take it to the world, he said.
