Coimbatore: The Southern Railway has extended the last day for flood-hit passengers from Kerala and Kanyakumari to apply for ticket cancellation and refunds by five days. They could now apply and claim refunds till September 20. The move comes after passengers reported that it was difficult for them to retrieve their ticket details by September 15, as they had only returned to their flood-affected houses after spending days at relief camps and other safer places.Passengers, who missed trains either because they were displaced during the flood or their trains were cancelled, can retrieve their booked ticket details and submit it at any railway station or surrender their ticket to receive a ticket deposit receipt. The same could be done online for tickets booked through the IRCTC website. The usual time for tickets to be surrendered is three days. For flood-affected passengers of Kerala and Kanyakumari, the railways had earlier set Saturday (September 15) as the last day.On Friday, the railways said in a statement that it has extended the last day for surrender of tickets and receiving of ticket deposit slips to September 20. “Many passengers, who had to move to safer places, have been able to return to their houses only after many days.
