Police take out flag march in Udhagamandalam

Hundreds of police personnel took out a flag march in Udhagamandalam, Coonoor, Gudalur and Kotagiri on Friday in preparation for Vinayaka Chathurthi processions on Saturday and Sunday. Flag marches were also held in Coonoor, Kotagiri, Gudalur and Devala. Another flag march from Khandal Mukkonam to Westbury Road was held later in the day. Police officials said that they had held meetings with the groups organising the processions and had laid down guidelines to prevent any law and order situations. The Nilgiris District Superintendent of Police D. Shanmuga Priya along with other top district police officials as well as police personnel, marched from Garden Road to Ooty Bus Stand via Commercial Street.

District police officials said they had given similar number of permissions for processions as last year and the same places where the idols could be immersed using the same routes. More than 950 police personnel, including two ADSPs, five DSPs, 24 inspectors, 80 sub-inspectors, 445 constables, 125 armed reserve police and 240 home guards would form part of the security that would be in place over the course of the next few days. Police officials said that they had held meetings with the groups organising the processions and had laid down guidelines to prevent any law and order situations.
