more-in The National Investigation Agency (NIA) which is probing the murder of Hindu Munnani spokesperson C. Sasikumar, will initiate steps for the extradition of an accused, who left India after the incident in 2016. Officials involved in the investigation said that they would take steps for the extradition of Mohammed Rafikul Hassan of K.K. Pudur, an accused in the case, who is believed to be in Oman or Qatar. “We will approach the court and seek his extradition, once all evidence against him are collected,” said an official. According to the NIA, Hassan left for West Asia in November 2016, after the murder of Sasikumar in September 2016. On August 30, the NIA conducted searches at Hassan’s house at K.K. Pudur and at a timber mill belonging to his family on Nallampalayam Road based on warrants issued by the NIA special court at Poonamallee in Chennai. The NIA recovered a sword and a billhook besides certain documents from the office of the mill. A digital video recorder, a hard disk, a mobile phone, two SIM cards, three memory cards, a pen drive and photocopies of Aadhaar cards, and passports were recovered from the house. List prepared The NIA team, camping in Coimbatore, is currently summoning and examining persons who were in touch with the assailants at the time of the murder. “The investigation officer has prepared a list of such persons and has been examining them,” the official added. More people are likely to be interrogated. Meanwhile, the NIA team summoned and examined Anwar Hussain, district president (West) of the Popular Front of India, on Thursday. The NIA has so far recorded the arrests of four accused in the case. While the first chargesheet against accused Sadham Hussain and S. Subair was filed on April 7, a supplementary chargesheet against Syed Abuthagir and Mohammed Mubarak was submitted on June 21.
