more-in The civic body will soon begin fencing all reserved sites so as to prevent those from being encroached upon. The civic body’s town planning wing officials said they had identified 1,367 reserved sites across the five zones in the city. Of those 279 sites were in use as parks. And, of the remaining 1,088 sites, it had already fenced 196 sites and 27 were being fenced. To fence the remaining 865 reserved sites, the Corporation had earmarked around ? 10 crore. In the first phase, the Corporation had taken up a few sites for fencing in the near future – 36 sites in West Zone and 48 sites in South Zone at ? 2 crore. Work was in progress in the 84, the officials said. Of the 865 sites to be fenced, the Corporation was a party to legal disputes in 25 sites. It was taking efforts to expedite the hearing and get early verdicts from the courts concerned. In addition to fencing the sites, the zonal assistant town planning officers would also erect boards declaring that the Corporation was the lawful owner of the sites and illegal occupation of those would invite stringent action. The erection of boards was also a warning for people who attempt to sell those to gullible buyers, the officials added. Meanwhile, the Corporation had also embarked on an exercise to identify open space reserve (OSR) in gated communities and apartments that were developed prior to 2010. Teams led by the zonal assistant town planning officers would visit those gated communities/apartments to check if there were constructions on the places marked as OSR and if it were so, they would issue notice immediately asking the developer or residents’ welfare associations or people concerned to immediately demolish those. The officials said that the civic body was exclusively focusing on areas developed prior to 2010 because the Corporation then had not insisted on registering the OSRs in its name by gift deeds. In a few localities, misusing the opportunity, property promoters or residents’ welfare associations had built common facilities for the community on OSRs. The officials further said that if the property developers or residents’ welfare associations did not demolish or remove the structures within the given time, the Corporation would go ahead and demolish those.
