Preparatory work for LS poll begins

Coimbatore: Preparatory work for the 2019 Lok Sabha election has commenced in the district. Once the list is submitted, the officials would be assigned of election duty in the booths,” said an official from the district administration who is involved in the election preparatory work. The district election department has submitted the requirement to the Election Commission of India (ECI) based on the voting population of both the constituencies. A total of 3,070 polling booths would be set up in the district.The district has received its share of 7,370 electronic voting machines (EVMs), 4,000 control units and 4,000 voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVpat) machines for the Coimbatore and Pollachi constituencies in October. District collector TN Hariharan has directed the heads of government departments to submit the names of eligible staff for the election duty on or before Monday.“Other than officials who are on medical and maternity leave and disabled officials, heads of the departments were directed to include all the available staff for the election duty.
