Miscreants strike at 3 temples in Sulur, steal gold and cash

Coimbatore: Unidentified people have broken into three temples in Sulur and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 lakh, a silver crown worth Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000 cash on Tuesday night.The incident came to light when the priest of Venkatesa Perumal Temple at Sengathurai came to open the shrine on Wednesday morning. He immediately alerted the temple authorities, who called police.When police reached the spot, it was found that gold and money from two more temples were stolen in a similar fashion. Temple burglaries have become frequent in Sulur in the past weeks.

Police said the miscreants had also broke into Angalamman temple and Makaliamman temple in the same area and made away with six sovereigns of gold and Rs 50,000 from the hundial.Police have registered a case and further investigation is on. Temple burglaries have become frequent in Sulur in the past weeks. Police are trying to ascertain whether the same miscreants are involved in all the incidents.
