Police looking for leads to crack 3 murder cases

Coimbatore: The city police are still struggling to solve three murderer cases registered since 2015. We are trying to crack them with the help of sources in prisons and other places,” police commissioner Sumit Sharan told TOI. “We don’t close murder cases. The killer had decamped with more than 20 sovereigns of gold ornaments, an LCD TV and cash. After the investigating officer was transferred last year, the case went cold.On July 25, 2018, decomposed head, hands and legs of a woman was recovered from Selvampathy lake.

Coimbatore: The city police are still struggling to solve three murderer cases registered since 2015. The cases turned cold after members of special teams working to solve them were transferred, a senior police officer said.On December 12, 2015, C Mani, a 45-year-old priest-cum-soothsayer, was found dead with his throat slit in his house at Dhanabal Layout, Varadharajapuram. The killer had decamped with more than 20 sovereigns of gold ornaments, an LCD TV and cash. Though police interrogated more than 100 people, they could not find the killer.In February 2016, the Race Course police recovered the skeletal remains of 60-year-old R Pappathi and her 35-year-old daughter R Geetha from their house on Avinashi Road. Police suspected that the duo might have been murdered in 2015. Pappathi’s son R Saravanakumar had gone missing. Preliminary inquiry revealed that he was a mentally-challenged person. Police circulated posters carrying his photographs at Palani, Perur and other places. After the investigating officer was transferred last year, the case went cold.On July 25, 2018, decomposed head, hands and legs of a woman was recovered from Selvampathy lake. The Selvapuram police also retrieved a churidar and a toe ring. “We sent the photographs of the dress to all police stations. A special team conducted inquiry with hundreds of migrant labourers,” a police officer said. “We don’t close murder cases. We are trying to crack them with the help of sources in prisons and other places,” police commissioner Sumit Sharan told TOI.
