Still young at heart, they meet at alma mater after 50 years

Coimbatore: It was an evening filled with warm bear hugs, backslapping, chuckles as 50 alumni of PSG College of Technology celebrated their golden jubilee at their alma mater on Friday evening.The engineering batch of 1969-’74 used the opportunity to reminisce their college days, meet each other’s families and celebrate one another’s success in various walks of life. While the former students enjoyed bumping into each other, 20 teachers, who attended the meeting, turned emotional.“This time, we have five collegemates, who have come down from abroad for the meet. We are meeting some classmates after 45 years,” said Joseph Joachim, one of the batch members.

And it has been an indescribable feeling since Thursday afternoon, when we began getting together,” said the batch’s alumni coordinator, R Krishnakumar.To truly relive their college days, they had checked into their college hostel on Thursday afternoon and spent time in their old rooms. They had dinner and breakfast at the college mess and took a stroll around their beloved campus. “We almost feel like we are back in college as a student and young again,” said Krishnakumar.“It has actually been funny, with just recognizing some classmates taking half-an-hour and remembering where they used to sit and play mischief. We are meeting some classmates after 45 years,” said Joseph Joachim, one of the batch members. “It is a great feeling of oneness. Some of us are corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, teachers, government employees and educationists. This reunion took us back to our golden old days.”
