Chettipalayam jallikattu: 20 bull tamers injured

COIMBATORE: Twenty bull tamers and two bulls were injured till Sunday afternoon as a jallikattu event progressed at Chettipalayam near Coimbatore. Municipal administration minister S P Velumani inaugurated the second edition of the bull-taming event here at 8am.More than 750 bulls and 600 bull tamers from several districts, including Madurai, Pudukkottai and Trichy, had registered for the event.Around 20 ambulances and 15 doctors have been deployed at the venue. More than 3,000 police personnel were deployed to control crowd. The animal husbandry department deployed 18 teams to check the bulls before letting them enter the arena.“We have so far rejected five animals as their owners had failed to submit health and vaccination certificate,” said an official.TOI photo by J JacksonAround 50,000 people assembled at Chettipalayam to watch jallikattu.
