Committed to make Coimbatore a model city: Commissioner

Coimbatore: Sravan Kumar Jatavath a 2014 batch IAS officer , took charge as the commissioner of the city corporation on Tuesday.Jatavath, a 29-year-old engineering graduate from IIT Bombay, is the 24th commissioner of the corporation. He had worked as assistant collector in Trichy and assistant secretary to cabinet minister of information and broadcasting, before assuming charge as Tirupur sub-collector.He replaces K Vijayakarthikeyan, a 2011 batch IAS officer.Talking to reporters, Jatavath promised to make Coimbatore a model city. My priority is to understand the city as early as possible. But, each city is unique and this is a new experience. The administration is committed to provide the basic amenities to all.

I request people to support and co-operate with the corporation officials. The administration is committed to provide the basic amenities to all. Public places including railway stations and bus stands will always be kept clean and maintained as best as possible.”“As I have worked with the ministry of urban development, I have got some exposure. But, each city is unique and this is a new experience. My priority is to understand the city as early as possible. People’s priority will be my priority,”the official said.He is aware that Coimbatore, being selected as one of the smart cities, is gearing up to implement projects worth crores of rupees, Jatavath said.“I will carry forward all the good works implemented by my predecessors.”
