COIMBATORE: A day after six people were detained for robbing an air parcel service agent of Rs 97 lakh worth gold, diamond and silver ornaments, the Peelamedu (crime) police recovered from them 2kg stolen gold on Friday.They also arrested three of them - Praveena, her husband Dhinakaran, of Seeranaickenpalayam, and Venkatesh, of Narasipuram, and produced the trio before a judicial magistrate court, which remanded them in judicial custody. They were subsequently lodged at the central prison here.The remaining three - Karthick, of Thondamuthur, and Shelton and Mohanraj, of Kulathupalayam - are likely to be produced before the court in a day or two.An investigation officer said Praveena and her husband had gone to her parent’s house at Betlagundu in Dindigul district after the robbery and buried 2kg of the 5.75kg stolen gold at the backyard of the house. A team of police visited Betlagundu and recovered the gold ornaments on Friday.“Praveena was the mastermind behind the robbery. An employee of the courier service firm, she leaked all the official information to her husband, who formed a team, did recce of the area from Sukrawarpet to SITRA for a week and fixed a spot on Avinashi Road to commit the robbery. They also collected details of CCTVs at traffic signals to avoid them. However, we collected a week’s CCTV footages and fixed the robbers,” said P Perumal, deputy commissioner of police (crime).The air parcel service agent, Prithvi Singh, 28, of Rajasthan, was waylaid by a three-member gang and robbed of 5.75kg gold ornaments, 1.42kg silver ornaments and 122.88 carats diamond on February 7 when he was on his way to the city airport to send the consignment to Mumbai.
