Coimbatore: A minor scuffle between two boys ended in the murder of one of the boys’ grandfather at Thennampalayam near Sulur here on Sunday, after their families intervened in the issue. Police have arrested a father-son duo in connection with the case.According to police, it all started with Sashanth Abilash, 7, of Thennampalayam, accidently stamping on the leg of his neighbour E Tamil Prabhu, 13, at Anjaneyar temple, where the former, along with his grandmother, had gone to offer prayers on Saturday evening. “An infuriated Tamil Prabhu assaulted Abilash,” a police officer said.Abilash returned home and narrated everything to his mother Kalpana. On Sunday around 1pm, Kalpana took her son to Tamil Prabhu’s house, where she fought with his family members. She also allegedly hit Tamil Prabhu. Tamil Prabhu’s father Edwin, 45, a building contractor, and elder brother E Prabhu alias Prabhakaran, 29, intervened in the issue and pushed down Kalpana, who sustained minor injuries. She then called up her father R Nagaraj, 56, and asked him to come down to the spot. A goods autorickshaw driver, Nagaraj reached the spot immediately and questioned Edwin and his son Prabhakaran. However, the father-son duo assaulted him with a wooden log. Hearing the commotion, neighbours rushed to the spot and took Nagaraj, who suffered severe head injuries, to a private hospital at Neelambur. But he died without responding to treatment.Meanwhile, Kalpana lodged a complaint with police, who arrested Edwin and Prabhakaran. Further investigation is on. TNN
