Coimbatore: Crop simulation models are the need of the hour due to the changing climate scenario, director of crop management at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) V Geethalakshmi said here on Saturday, the World Meteorological Day.“Meteorology plays a big role in agriculture and crop management, because climate is constantly changing and farmers find it difficult to detect patterns like they could a few decades ago.
Crop simulations, which can predict growth as per daily weather inputs, could go a long way in protecting crops,” she said at an event on meteorology conducted by TNAU.Former professor and head of the university’s Agro-climate Research Centre talked about the pre-industrial carbon dioxide concentration and compared it with the current concentration level of 411ppm and its influence on crop growth.TNAU vice-chancellor N Kumar stressed on the need for precise weather prediction.
