Tirupur: A 50-year-old woman was murdered by a man she was in a relationship with in broad daylight at Thennampalayam here on Tuesday.The victim, Thangammal of Thoothukudi, was a divorcee and mother of two, police said. "She had married Krishnan about 20 years ago and the couple have two children. After she separated from him, Krishnan, along with the children, had moved to the dollar city. Thangammal stayed back in Thoothukudi. Four years ago, she developed a relationship with Pandi alias Ponnaiah and was staying with him in Thoothukudi. But, after a quarrel with him, she ended the relationship and migrated to Tirupur four months ago. She was staying with her daughter Keerthana at Muthaiyan Kovil South in Thennampalayam and was working as a construction worker," a police officer said.Recently, Pandi arrived in Tirupur to meet Thangammal and tried to persuade her to stay with him. "They had a quarrel after the woman refused to heed to his demands. Keerthana's family members had to intervene to broker peace between the two. Thangammal returned the things that Pandi had bought her," the officer told TOI.When Thangammal was on the way to work on Tuesday morning, Pandi stopped her at Ramaiah Gounder Layout and again demanded her to come with him. When she refused, Pandi hacked her using a sickle on her neck, before fleeing from the place. Though Thangammal was rushed to the Tirupur Government Hospital , she was declared dead. Police have launched a search for Pandi.
