Coimbatore: A police team consisting of superintendent Pa Moorthy and Naxalite special division (NSD) additional deputy superintendent A Mohan Nawas visited the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border on Thursday and instructed NSD police personnel to be ready to face any situation.Kerala police had alerted Tamil Nadu police about Maoists planning to observe the first death anniversary of the two Maoists, who were killed in an encounter with Kerala police in Nilambur forest in Kerala on November 24, last year. According to intelligence sources, Maoists are planning to strike in the border areas.The senior police officers met members of the armed reserve police and the Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP), who are deployed at Mangarai police check post. The SP interacted with them and instructed them to check all the vehicles passing through the area. He also instructed them to be on alert during the night hours.The team later visited the police check post at Anaikatti on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border. From there, the officers travelled to Kopanari tribal settlement and interacted with the tribes. They requested the tribals to inform police if they find strangers inside the forest. The police officers also inspected Mulli check post, Pillur Dam police station and the power generation area of the dam."We identified Pillur Dam, Karunya Nagar, Vadakkipalayam, Mudis, Kadamparai and Sheikalmudis police stations, which are some of the vulnerable police stations in the district. The department had deployed two sentries each for duty there. We have now increased the number of personnel. They will protect the police stations round-the-clock. Personnel at all the six police stations located near the reserve forest were given advanced weapons," Moorthy added.
