Periasamy more-in The railways on Tuesday conduced the speed test of Uday Express double decker train ahead of starting service between Coimbatore and Bengaluru. The train was operated at a speed of 100 kmph on the second test run from Coimbatore station to Somanayakkanpatti station near Vellore. Earlier, the railways had conducted the first test run of the train in which minor hitches were noticed. Unlike operating normal coaches, trial runs were required to check free movement of the double decker coaches of Uday Express on the proposed lane between Somanayakkanpatti, and Coimbatore. As Uday Express is already in service on Bengalur-Chennai stretch, test run was not required on the stretch from Jolarpettai to Bengaluru. The train is proposed to be operated on the stretch Coimbatore – Jolarpettai – Bengaluru. In the first trial run, there the rakes had came in contact with platforms at a few places. Such issues were cleared ahead of the second trial run cum speed test, said an official. On the first trial run, the train was operated at a speed of 60-65 kmph. On the second trail run cum speed test, the train was operated with eight passenger coaches and two luggage-cum-brake vans. The train left Coimbatore station at 12.20 p.m. A camera was fitted on the coach to check whether the thermocol reapers fitted on a coach had come into contact with platforms.
