'Dead' newborn is found to be alive

KENDRAPADA: A newborn, allegedly declared dead at the district government hospital in Kendrapada on Wednesday evening, was later found alive by the family members. Subhankari Giri (27) of Talachua village delivered a girl on Wednesday morning but the nursing staff allegedly failed to find any signs of life, leading to the baby been declared dead. The father of the baby alleged that the nurse declared the baby as stillborn. "We are treating the baby as her condition is serious. We are investigating the allegation."

KENDRAPADA: A newborn, allegedly declared dead at the district government hospital in Kendrapada on Wednesday evening, was later found alive by the family members. Subhankari Giri (27) of Talachua village delivered a girl on Wednesday morning but the nursing staff allegedly failed to find any signs of life, leading to the baby been declared dead. But after a few minutes the baby started moving her limbs, said Ajya Giri , the woman's husband.The incident triggered tension in the area with some locals and family members gathering outside the hospital, demanding an answer to the alleged goof-up.When contacted, chief district medical officer ( CDMO Baishanba Charana Sahoo said the newborn has respiratory problems. "We are treating the baby as her condition is serious. The father of the baby alleged that the nurse declared the baby as stillborn. We are investigating the allegation."
