Probe yet to begin in CMC graft case

They also claimed that sodium vapor street lights, which were replaced by LED lights recently in Cuttack, were taken by the commissioner and installed in his native village.

CUTTACK:Two days after Cuttack mayor Meenakshi Behera ordered an inquiry against Cuttack Municipal Corporation CMC ) commissioner Bikash Mohapatra on corruption charges, she is yet to form a probe team, triggering resentment among Congress corporators.On Monday, the corporators had alleged that Mohapatra had illegally diverted properties of CMC to his native village in Kendrapara district. They also claimed that sodium vapor street lights, which were replaced by LED lights recently in Cuttack, were taken by the commissioner and installed in his native village."The mayor is intentionally delaying the investigation of the matter to give ample time to the commissioner to delete all evidence. If he fails to meet the deadline we will stage an agitation," Congress leader Mohammed Moquim said.Congress corporators have alleged that as per guidelines the unused sodium vapour lights should be auctioned and the money earned should be deposited in CMC funds. But Mohapatra have illegally transported the sodium vapour lights to his native village.The mayor, though, has refuted charges of delaying the probe. "We will initiate an inquiry. We need time to form the committee and select the committee members," Behera said.
