Odisha govt to send team to Dharmasthala on Aug 21

The committee is also expected to interact with D Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, who has spearheaded the drive to keep the Kshetra clean, as part of their visit, sources added. The SC also sought a report from the district judge in Odisha over the difficulties faced by the pilgrims who visit the temple. They will interact with senior officers and sevaks of the temple regarding management of the temple, crowd control and various other daily rituals.The Odisha government order dated August 2 comes in wake of a recent judgement by the Apex Court that expressed concern over exploitation of pilgrims who come to Sri Jagannath Temple. DHARMASTHALA: Stung by a rap on its knuckles by the Supreme Court over management of the famed Sri Jagannath Temple at Puri, the Odisha government has set up a three-member committee to study the management schemes of various important shrines in India.The committee headed by S C Mahapatra, additional chief secretary, department of forest and environment, will visit Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala in this regard on August 21.Sources at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala said the committee that consists of S K Priyadarshi, inspector general of police, Central Range, Cuttack and Mohimohan Tripathy, former administrator of the Sri Jagannath Temple management committee will be in this temple town for the whole day on August 21. The Odisha government has since set up the committee which will see first-hand the arrangements put in place at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala.The Mahapatra-led committee will also visit Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board as well as the Golden Temple at Amristar as part of their endeavor to bring out improvements in the management of Sri Jagannath Temple.The committee is expected to suggest such changes as many be considered necessary for the Puri temple.Incidentally, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala has been voted the cleanest temple city in India.The committee as per the itinerary drawn up by Mahapatra will visit Amritsar on August 16, Mata Vaisho Devi Temple on August 18, Tirupati on August 20 and Dharmasthala on August 21 before reaching Bhubaneswar via Chennai the next day.
