Walk to meet PM futile Muktikanta speaks to Odisha CM

After the remarkable walk that resulted in Muktikanta inching towards a hunger strike - which he later cancelled - he returned home without having met the Prime Minister. Muktikanta once fainted on the National Highway 2 after entering in Agra due to the heat wave that was ongoing then. His walk was tweeted about by Congress president Rahul Gandhi. He was admitted to a local hospital by some local residents. The tweet and the funds collection drive that followed saw money come in from various sources, including leaders of the opposition.On July 30, Biswal had set off on a march to Bhubaneswar from the steel city to draw the attention of chief minister Naveen Patnaik towards his demands, the same ones that he wished to remind Modi of.

BHUBANESWAR: Idol-maker Muktikanta Biswal, who recently walked from Rourkela to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his promises made in April 2015, met chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the latter's residence here on Saturday.BJD MLA from Raghunathpali and former minister Subrat Tarai were both present when Biswal met Naveen.The Rourkela resident had hit the headlines in April for his protracted efforts to meet PM Modi over his promise to build a second bridge over the Brahmani river and a super specialty hospital-cum-medical college in the steel city. He walked 480 km to reach Bhubaneswar.Naveen, after receiving a memorandum from Muktikanta, assured him that he will take up the matter with the Prime Minister, said an official source.The BJD and BJP had recently locked horns over the construction of a second bridge over the river Brahmani near Rourkela.In December 2017, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had urged Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite the construction of the bridge or to allow the state government to take up construction activities.Meanwhile, Gadkari blamed lack of forest clearance and land issues by the state government for its delay.
