CMC says Cuttack roads to be repaired by October 10

The CMC officials have decided to spend at least Rs 10 lakh on each of the 59 wards to improve the condition of roads and drains. "The areas where roads are in the worst condition will be repaired on a war footing. "Durga puja is just a month away but roads in the city are in a dilapidated condition. CUTTACK: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation CMC ) has drawn up big plans to ensure that the city looks spic and span during Durga Puja.The civic body has decided to undertake repair of roads, drains and streetlights on a war footing and Rs 6 crore has been allocated for it. Sanitary officers will move around the city to inspect the work.Over 150 puja committees will come up in the city.

The CMC officials have decided to spend at least Rs 10 lakh on each of the 59 wards to improve the condition of roads and drains."Durga puja is just a month away but roads in the city are in a dilapidated condition. They are filled with craters and potholes and people are worried about it. If roads are not repaired then we will avoid pandal hopping as it will be too strenuous," said a lawyer, Manoj Das.However, the CMC authorities have claimed that adequate steps will be taken to complete all road repairs and sanitation work in major areas within the stipulated time. Repair of roads will start within a week. The corporators will supervise our engineers to carry out road repair works in their respective wards. The work will be completed before October 10, said chairman of CMC's standing committee on health and sanitation Ranjan Biswal.Biswal added that review meetings will be conducted at regular intervals to ensure that work is going on at a smooth pace. "The areas where roads are in the worst condition will be repaired on a war footing. Besides, drains will also be repaired and at places streetlights will be made functional," he said.At least two sanitation workers will be deployed round the clock near each puja mandap to ensure proper cleaning. Sanitary officers will move around the city to inspect the work.Over 150 puja committees will come up in the city. Huge welcome arches and deities decked up with gold and silver tableaux and ornaments are special highlights of Millennium City's puja.
