Stage set for smooth Baliyatra

CUTTACK: After the Baliyatra Traders' Association gave 24 hours to the Cuttack district administration to do away with the new norms on Friday, these were rolled back on Saturday. The historic fair will start from November 23. Cuttack district administration succumbed to the pressure from the traders' association, which was demanding changes in new rules on plot allocation at Baliyatra ground . The association had threatened on Friday to boycott the fair. The new rule 'one stall for one trader' has been withdrawn. One trader can put up multiple stalls in the fair.Another contentious issue was giving nod to some traders' demand for more than 4,000 sq ft land for stalls. Several traders had applied for the land and the applications were pending . The collector on Saturday aggreed to the the traders' demand. District collector Arvind Agarwal admitted that the new rules have been withdrawn."Keeping in mind smooth functioning of the fair, we discussed all the issues with the traders' association and met their demands," he said. tnn
